MOVING IMAGE IN SPECIAL LOCATIONS
Opening at the end of August, the Moving Image Biennial CONTOUR 7 will take you to several
very special locations in Mechelen. Go along to the starting point at Academie Mechelen,
purchase your ticket and from there make your way to the CC Mechelen for your first slice of moving image.
The trail then leads to De Vlietenkelder, a vaulted canal or inlet (known as a ‘vliet’)
dating from the sixteenth century which is not normally open to the public. The next stop
is Hof van Busleyden (Van Busleyden Court), one of the most beautiful places in Mechelen.
It is also where writer and humanist Thomas More, to whom the Biennial is dedicated,
strolled 500 years ago as he contemplated his book Utopia.
Kazerne Dossin is also steeped in history. Its monsters and martyrs have provided CONTOUR 7
artists with inspiration. The trail ends in the historic chapel and inner courtyard at
De Noker, the setting for a high mass of contemporary video art.
BARK ALONG WITH A DOG REPUBLIC
A Dog Republic (Jean-Baptiste Decavèle, Nico Dockx, Yona Friedman, Helena Sidiropoulos
and Krist Torfs) is looking for barking, howling and growling… human beings!
They gladly invite you to let the inner dog in yourself off the leash so as
to provide the content for their Barking Conversations at the Biennale. Record
your most engaging, most pathetic or savagest barking, howling and growling,
click on ‘send’ and become part of this rabid work of art. Woof woof!
Record your bark at www.contour7.be/barking
THOMAS MORE-HOGESCHOOL INVITATION
Thomas More-Hogeschool and CONTOUR 7 are educational partners in crime.
And not just because this year’s Biennial is dedicated to Thomas More…
We are working together on educational projects which give students
the chance to get a foot in the door of the workplace. At the request
of CONTOUR 7, several students from the Interactive Multimedia Design
course have developed a smartphone app to guide you on that journey.
Thomas More-Hogeschool is making 500 free tickets available to the first
500 grade 5 and 6 secondary school pupils visiting CONTOUR 7.
There’s no need to register.
Just say the magic words “Thomas More Hogeschool invitation” and, on
presentation of your student card, you’ll be able to visit the Moving
Image Biennale free of charge!
CONTOUR 7 IN SEARCH OF UTOPIA
CONTOUR 7 is looking for utopias, unfulfilled dreams and life’s desires
for a work by the French artist Fabrice Hyber. A video, a text, a drawing?
Anything goes! The selected utopias will be incorporated into a drawing by
the artist and used to create his work Tv More.
Send your utopia to
info@contourmechelen.be
or by post to Contour (Sint-Romboutskerkhof 2, 2800 Mechelen)
to arrive by July 15th 2015 at the latest.
