CONTOUR 7 presenteert het werk van meer dan twintig internationale kunstenaars op verschillende locaties in Mechelen. Deze werken, waarvan een groot aantal nieuwe creaties, verenigen zich onder het thema Monsters, Martyrs and Media en putten inspiratie uit de utopieën, monsters en martelaren van heden en verleden.

Deze editie van CONTOUR wordt opgedragen aan Thomas More. Door velen beschouwd als martelaar, door anderen als monster, maar ook als kunstenaar of filosoof. Wat er ook van zij, hij was als briljante dwaas ruimschoots voor op zijn tijd. Tijdens een verblijf in Vlaanderen in de zomer van 1515, waarbij hij ook Mechelen bezocht, schreef More het grootste deel van zijn boek over de ideale staat, het eiland Utopia.

Op 28 augustus wordt de 7e Biënnale voor Bewegend Beeld CONTOUR 7 feestelijk geopend!

This edition of CONTOUR is dedicated to Thomas More. Regarded by many as a martyr and by some as a monster, perhaps even as a philosopher or artist. Certainly he was a brilliant fool, ahead of his time. It was while visiting Flanders – he stopped through Mechelen – in the summer of 1515 that he wrote the bulk of his book on the ideal commonwealth, the island of Utopia.
